Nurses and Midwives

Competent Authority

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is the independent, statutory organisation which regulates the nursing and midwifery professions in Ireland.

All nurses and midwives who practise in Ireland must by law be listed on the Register of Nurses and Midwives which is maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Registration Process

The registration process is dependent on where your qualifications were achieved. The application process can now be completed online at myNMBI.

Registration process for Irish-trained applicants

If you trained as a nurse or midwife in the Republic of Ireland, you will already have met the requirements set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) because you will have completed a nursing or midwifery programme which they approved.
